Ingredients

  • 2 cups millet
  • 1/2 cup dried ginger
  • 1/4 cup cloves
  • 1/2 cup sugar, or to taste
  • 8 cups clean water
  • 1 small piece fresh pineapple peel, optional

How to make it

  1. Wash the millet thoroughly and soak in clean water for 6 to 8 hours.
  2. Blend the soaked millet with ginger and cloves using enough water to form a smooth slurry.
  3. Strain through a fine sieve or clean cloth.
  4. Pour the strained mixture into a clean pot.
  5. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens slightly and reaches a safe cooked consistency.
  6. Allow to cool completely.
  7. Add sugar to taste and enough cold boiled water to reach a drinkable consistency.
  8. Chill thoroughly before serving.
